Miles of Smiles

Miles of Smiles is a free on-campus dental suite of services for Kindergartners - 8 th graders, including: an education assembly for the students, oral health assessment, topical fluoride varnish application, and/or dental sealants!

Dental sealants protect teeth from developing cavities by creating a barrier from the bacteria that cause cavities in teeth.  Dental sealants are plastic resins used to fill the pits and fissures of the back teeth (molars).  The application is simple, takes only a few moments, and requires no shots or drilling so it is painless!  A special light is then used to harden the sealant.

Topical fluoride varnish can help strengthen the tooth enamel and is another way to reduce cavities.  Fluoride varnish is painted on the teeth.  The varnish will stick to the tooth for about one day.  Topical fluoride varnish can be applied several time a year, or more frequently for children at higher risk for cavities.
